Appraisals

Appraisal is a Policy Provision found in the Loss Settlement section.  It is an Alternate Dispute Resolution, which can resolve disagreement when the Carrier and Policyholder do not agree on the amount of loss.  It is an alternative to a lawsuit.  Appraisal does not address coverage issues but can include or exclude items based on causation depending on the state.

Once the Appraisal clause/provision is invoked, the insured's appraiser and the insurance carrier's appraiser will estimate the damage and try to come to an agreement on the amount of loss. If the appraisers fail to agree, they will submit their differences to the umpire. An itemized decision agreed to by two of these three will set the amount of loss. Such an award shall be binding.

Each party will pay its own appraiser and bear the other expenses of the appraisal and umpire equally.

We have experience Appraiser that can assist you in the Appraisal process.

Umpire

A Property Insurance Umpire is a competent, disinterested, impartial individual who is charged with making a decision regarding the value of a property or the amount of property loss. The use of an Umpire is usually a requirement within an Appraisal clause when the insured appraiser and insurance companies appraiser are unable to reach a settlement.

Daniel C. Hogan SN. has been named umpire form both the insurance company as well as the insured and or their representative.

More about our process

  • Public Adjusters (PAs), also referred to as Public Insurance Adjusters, are employed by YOU, the policyholder, to advocate on your behalf. We are licensed professionals trained to handle property loss insurance claims for individual homeowners and businesses. Whereas your Insurance Company may already have their own Adjuster assigned to your claim, Public Adjusters are completely INDEPENDENT and UNAFFILIATED with insurance companies; that means we will solely advocate for your interests to your Insurance Company and their Adjuster.

  • Property loss can come in many forms. At D.C. Hogan & Associates, we handle all types of insurance claims including (but not limited to): Water damage, fire damage, flood damage, storm damage, wind & hail damage, hurricane damage.

  • We service Texas (License #1576628 & #2697425), Louisiana (License #570245), Florida (License #W276702), and New Jersey (License #1319277).

  • Each state’s Department of Insurance sets the rules for billing and fees, which can result in varying costs for public adjusters (feel free to reach out for more specific information). Rather than an hourly or fixed service fee, we typically earn a small percentage of your recovery settlement (usually around 10% of the loss, as determined by state statute). This signifies that if there’s NO RECOVERY, there are NO FEES. Therefore, you won’t be indebted to us if D.C. Hogan & Associates fails to procure a settlement for your claim. We commit to making EVERY possible effort to ensure you obtain the largest payout permissible under your insurance policy.

  • The duration of the insurance claims process can fluctuate due to various factors, including the workload of your insurance company and the volume of claims in their queue. Nevertheless, we at D.C. Hogan & Associates endeavor to finalize your settlement within a timeframe of 30-60 days. We are committed to expediently delivering the results you need.

  • Depending on the time elapsed since your initial claim, you might still be eligible to file a Supplemental Claim with your Insurance Company. Don’t hesitate to reach out to us today so that we can examine and discuss your potential claim options! Your opportunities for recourse might still be open.
